Saeil Jeon currently serves as Technical Lead in Materials for at Volvo Group Trucks Technology in a department which covers the entire value chain from long-term research and planning to final delivery of complete vehicles and services to the Volvo Group truck business.
He is technology specialist in lightweight solution and and drives various global research projects developing innovative lightweight material solutions incorporating the use of composites, alloys, green technologies and developing specialized joining techniques of dissimilar materials.
He joined the Volvo Group in 2011, bringing a proven career track record including 4 years in powertrain base-engine system design for specialized fuel applications. While working within the base engine department, Saeil was in charge for crank-train including piston, ring packs, connecting rod, crankshaft, bearings, lubrication and engine block with the cooling system.
Saeil received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering - Heat Transfer and Fluid Dynamics from Texas A&M University along with a sub-specialty in sensor development from SSI (Solid State Institute) in Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M University. His M.S. in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Design were from Seoul National University and Korea Aerospace University respectively. His industry contributions includes various conference presentations and publications in academic and technical journals covering topics in alternative lightweight and recycled bio-sourced materials to nanotechnology cooling methods and powertrain component development. Saeil's current research topics cover the innovative use of lightweight recycled fibers and submicron reinforced multi-functional materials along with additive manufacturing for future applications. His focus centers on balancing optimal endurance in extreme physical environments against realistic technical and economic constraints.
